Business Analyst
About the Job
The Business Analyst identifies market opportunities and customer needs, defining product strategy, defining product features and capabilities, forecasting return on investment, recommending distribution and pricing strategies, and writing and implementing business development materials. The role analyzes industry trends to identify key unsolved business problems, and creates innovative solutions to these problems. This position is tasked with anticipating and meeting the business problems of our existing clients, while at the same time providing solutions that open the doors to new clients, markets, and industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Studying a market to understand the customer needs, competitive landscape, and market forces — with the ultimate goal of uncovering opportunities for creating product enhancements as well as new products.
- Prepares business development materials for prospective clients. Perform qualitative and quantitative research with existing customers and potential prospects. Perform sales, trend, and profitability analysis.
- Preparing a product strategy and/or business requirements document detailing how to capitalize on the uncovered opportunities.
- Specifying what a product needs to do including information such as product vision, target market, competitive summary, detailed description of product features, prioritization of features, use cases, system requirements, performance requirements, sales and support requirements, etc.
- Creating a strategy for the product, focusing on the long-term horizon and creating a compelling vision for the product’s features. Capable of balancing forces that influence product strategy and development including sales objectives, marketing/branding objectives, technology strategy, portfolio management, budget management, market trends, competition, business model effects and revenue considerations.
- Prioritize the features based on customer value and relevance to the market. Making sure that the right features get built in the right order and at the right time.
- Communicating the product benefits, features and target markets, and in general championing the product to internal teams such as sales, marketing, support and executives.
- Researching and analyzing business trends and issues in the other industries.
- Work closely with development managers to define the contents and delivery of a product release.
- Respond to requests for proposals and writing formal sales proposals.
Skill and Education Requirements
- Previous experience as a Business Analyst, Product Manager, Marketing Analyst, or Development Analyst in a consumer oriented industry required.
- Thorough understanding of industry trends and business issues in at least one of the following areas: consumer credit, risk management, consumer financing, identity fraud, and consumer data security preferred. Previous banking, credit card or financial services industry work experience preferred.
- Excellent ability to recognize complex problems and create innovative solutions. Ability to apply analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, leadership, and consensus-building skills. Ability to be responsive and persuasive to all levels of the organization.
- Superior verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills in both internal and external interactions.
- Acts with a sense of urgency to assess requirements and produce quality results. Budgeting and financial analysis experience. Ability to formulate and communicate key priorities that guide and focus the efforts of others.
- Exhibit self starting work ethic that co-workers respect and admire. Ability and willingness to work long, flexible hours as needed to deliver success for our customers.
- Requires 4-10 years of experience in product development. Assertive, dynamic, energetic, and good sense of humor for collaborating, facilitating and motivating.
- Comfort in a fast-paced, informal, high-energy environment.
- Excellent academic credentials including at least a B.A. or B.S., MBA preferred.
- High level proficiency with MS Office tools.
- Ability to communicate key ideas, concepts, and summarize information in a concise and professional manner.
