Development Database Administrator

About the Job

This position is part of the Vesta Data Management team. The ideal candidate will possess 2-4 years development experience in the SQL Server environment. Experience with database design, stored procedures, and DTS is highly desirable. Understanding performance-tuning and development of highly performant systems is a plus. Knowledge of both Transactional and Data Warehousing systems is a plus.

Daily duties will include but not be limited to: developing database schemas and any code that is part of the data tier; writing and updating DTS packages; working with business users on requirements; working with other engineering groups as needed.

Business Results

1. Database Design

• Work with engineering team on small-to-medium database changes with minimal supervision
• Work as a team member on larger database projects

2. Stored Procedure/SQL Development

• Develop stored procedures and other database objects according to company standards
• Develop ad hoc queries and reports including adequate testing and validation
• Develop database test cases, including test data, for both unit testing and full system testing

3. DTS Development

• Develop DTS packages according to company standards
• Understand and modify existing processes as required

4. Production Deployment and Support

• Produce turnover documentation and scripts according to company standards
• Provide support to Production DBA team for rollout and subsequent production support
• Participate in on-call rotation

5. Other

• Document projects and systems according to company standards
• Troubleshoot, correct, and enhance existing systems as required
• Perform other duties as required

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's Degree
• Previous coursework or training in relational concepts, preferably not tool-specific training
• Minimum of 2 years experience of database development using SQL Server
• Proven results developing stored procedures, DTS packages, and other database components
• Experience with load software such as Mercury Load Runner is a plus
• Willing to learn and accept feedback from more senior team members and provide feedback to senior team members
• Highly analytical and detail oriented, with strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Display the initiative and dedication necessary for timely and successful work completion
• Self-motivated and a self-starter
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and ability to quickly switch tasks.)

The Development Database Administrator is a full-time position based in Portland, Oregon. Local candidates only. Relocation is not available for this position. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
