Telecom Systems Engineer
About the Job
The Telecom Systems Engineer will be responsible for system architecture, performing technical evaluations, integrating custom applications, defining solutions, developing processes, performing system engineering functions (trending, metrics, documentation, computing infrastructure), and providing technical support to Business-Facing Operations and Enterprise Services for Operations.
Business Results
Rolls and documents changes and additions to servers in the Production and pre-Production environments. Works with development on new projects and to maintain staging, QA and development servers. Creates and documents standard server builds for web and application servers.
Provides engineered technical solutions to complex business and enterprise integration problems. Plans, designs and develops complex computer based systems. Develops systems requirements and specifications.
Plans and collaborates in the installation, integration, operation and application of equipment.
Designs and performs trending analysis and metrics definitions for improved operations. Implements processes and controls necessary for the smooth operation of the production environment. Evaluates highly complex systems, performance, and issues in order to provide recommendations for improvements. Optimizes performance of the servers and entire computing environment.
Ensures consistency of design methodology among operational projects. Produces appropriate specifications and support documentation. Defines, implements, and audits highly complex computing infrastructure standards and guidelines for computing environments.
Provides 24x7 support for the production servers on an “on-call” basis in a rotational coverage system.
Education and/or Experience
Several years of progressively responsible IT experience with at least 4 years experience implementing, monitoring and supporting Windows-based application servers using IIS and Windows Component Services. Windows-based Production experience highly desired.
Expertise with Microsoft Windows 2000/2003, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft IIS 5 and 6, Microsoft Office and basic programming skills. Must be competent and proficient in server hardware technology and Production best practices. Experience with Microsoft SQL server 2000/2005, ColdFusion 5/MX and Linux administration desired.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate clearly. Must be able to prioritize workload dynamically and meet all deadlines in a timely manner while ensuring a high quality of work and documentation. Problem solving and analytical ability is essential.
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of college, industry training, and experience. Microsoft certifications desired. Cisco certifications a plus.
